Hi everyone! Welcome to week 2 of my Living Well with SIBO Journey: 5-Week Holiday Challenge!
In week 1, we talked about the first Key Pillar to Health – Awareness. Becoming aware of your condition, tracking your symptoms, listening to your body, and having the right mindset, exercise and lifestyle can be really helpful in your journey back to health.
This week, we will look into SIBO Testing and Treatment.
Testing for SIBO
Once you experience bloating, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, or any SIBO symptoms, it’s important to take a SIBO test. SIBO can be a chronic and often complicated condition to treat. So before commencing any treatment, it’s important to get tested first. This is because we want to know if it is SIBO causing your symptoms, and if so, what type of SIBO you have.
The good news is, there are several ways to get tested for SIBO: the SIBO breath test and jejunal aspirate, which we’re going to explore tomorrow.
Once you get tested, the next step is to find a practitioner who is experienced in treating SIBO. A SIBO specialist will recommend a course of treatment based on what SIBO you have, what type of treatment you feel most comfortable with and what they clinically see delivers the best results. Currently, SIBO can be treated with three treatment options: antibiotics, herbal antimicrobials, and the Elemental Diet.
No two people are the same. We’re all on different journeys so you need to make sure that you’re with the right practitioner who helps you to understand your condition, and who has the expertise and a depth of knowledge required to treat SIBO.
Tomorrow, you will learn more about how to get tested for SIBO, types of SIBO treatment and how each treatment works.
